hockey1Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Monday dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it had dissolved its selection committee and transferred all selection powers to the coaching staff, describing the claims as baseless.
In an official statement, the federation said the current PHF Selection Committee remained fully functional and would continue to discharge its responsibilities strictly on merit. The PHF said that, through the efforts of its President, Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, an international coaching panel was currently in Pakistan to assess players’ performances using a modern GPS-based monitoring system. The performance data generated by the panel was being shared with the selection committee to support the evaluation process.
It said the selection committee, comprising former hockey greats, would make the final decision on the national squad purely on merit. The team would be announced through the federation’s official platforms after considering the recommendations of the Professional Development Committee. Rejecting reports about the committee’s dissolution, the federation said the player selection process had instead been upgraded in line with modern international standards, strengthening rather than diminishing the role of the selection committee. According to the PHF spokesperson, the international coaches had not been given exclusive authority to select players. Their role was limited to providing technical assistance and professional input to the selection committee during the evaluation process.
