Rao Anwar sent to jail on judicial remand in Naqeebullah Murder case

Published on: April 21, 2018 1:11 PM

KARACHI: The anti-terrrorism court sent disgraced and suspended SSP Rao Anwar to jail on judicial remand till the 2nd of May in the case of the Pashtun youth Naqeebullah Mehsud, who was killed by police in a fake encounter in Karachi on the 13th of January.

Rao Anwar was presented before the court on Saturday after his physical remand had elapsed.

The investigation officer SSP Central Dr Rizwan requested more time to submit a final charge-sheet, on the grounds that that the joint investigation team (JIT) constituted to probe the murder had not finalised its findings yet.

The court heard the officer’s argument and thus adjourned the case till the 2nd of May.

The court also sent constable Shakeel to jail on judicial remand.

Shakeel was reportedly part of the team that was involved in Naqeebullah’s murder.

The court also extended the judicial remand of former DSP Qamar Ahmed and eight others.

When the hearing ended, a reporter asked Rao Anwar if Naqeebullah had been a terrorist. Anwar said that he would respond to the question once the final charge sheet was submitted before the court.
