Final witness in Avenfield case to record statement against Sharif family today

Published on: April 30, 2018 1:23 PM

ISLAMABAD: As the accountability court resumes hearing the corruption cases against Nawaz Sharif and his family, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) official is set to testify against the accused as the final witness.

The case itself pertains to the monumental Supreme Court verdict in the Panama Papers case that disqualified then sitting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and constituted corruption cases against him and his family.

Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar were initially present at the court but were later allowed to leave.

During the hearing, Nawaz’s counsel argued that recording the investigation officer’s statement would adversely impact his client’s defence. He also said that the court should first record the testimony of the Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) head Wajid Zia in the Flagship and Al Azizia references.

The hearing was then adjourned for a while.
