ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided not to increase the petroleum prices on immediate basis.
The current prices of the petroleum will remain in effect in the month of October.
Despite Oil and Gas Regulatory Authorities (OGRA) recommended to increase the prices of petroleum products by Rs 4, the federal government has decided to keep the prices unchanged.
Finance Minister Asad Umer disclosed the decision in an informal interaction with media representative in Bani Gala.
Earlier, the federal government was considering to increase the price of petroleum products from the month of October by Rs 10 per liter.
Sources told that the price of petrol was expected to increase Rs 6.30 per liter from October 1st, while the price of Kerosene oil was recommended to increase by RS 10 per liter.
Furthermore, the price of Light Diesel was expected to increase by Rs 4 per liter and High Diesel by Rs 8.50 per liter.
Earlier, the government had to face criticism from opposition over increase in gas prices. Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif has demanded the hike in gas tariffs be withdrawn.
