Imran Khan refuses polygraph test in may 9 case without legal team

Published on: May 20, 2025 4:25 PM

Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has refused to take a polygraph (lie detector) test in the May 9 cases. A police team from Lahore visited Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to conduct the test. However, Imran Khan declined to cooperate, saying he would not take part without his lawyers present. Due to this refusal, the planned test was not carried out.

The Lahore anti-terrorism court had allowed the polygraph test on May 14. Police had requested the test to verify Imran Khan’s role in the May 9 violence. They also planned a photographic test. The request claimed that scientific tests were necessary to uncover the truth. Despite legal opposition, the court approved the request.

A team of 11 officials led by DSP Asif Javed arrived at Adiala Jail to perform the test. The team included senior inspectors and a forensic expert from Punjab Forensic Science Agency. Jail staff went to Imran Khan’s cell, but he refused to come out. He insisted he would not meet the police without his legal counsel.

Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, strongly opposed the test in court. He said such a request made two years after the events shows bad intent. He argued that the test was unfair and legally weak. Despite this, the court gave the police permission to move forward with it.

The May 9 cases relate to violent protests following Imran Khan’s arrest in 2023. Protesters attacked government and military buildings. The government believes Imran Khan incited the unrest. However, his refusal to take the test adds new tension and may affect how the legal battle continues.
