“Not interested in bollywood stardom,” says Diljit Dosanjh in viral throwback video

Published on: June 26, 2025 4:33 PM

Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is making headlines again—but not for his music. A four-year-old video of him expressing no desire to become a Bollywood star has gone viral on social media.

The video surfaced shortly after backlash over the trailer release of his Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3. Many Indian filmmakers have criticized Dosanjh for working with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir and have even called for a complete boycott of the artist.

In a recent interview, Dosanjh addressed the film’s overseas release. He said the producers made the decision to release it internationally due to the high investment involved. He clarified that filming took place under normal conditions, but unexpected events after February were beyond his control.

The viral clip shows Dosanjh passionately speaking about his love for music. He states that he neither craves Bollywood fame nor needs anyone’s approval to create music. “I don’t want to be a Bollywood star. I just want to sing,” he says firmly.

He adds that his passion for music drives him and he will continue making songs, whether or not Bollywood gives him work. “As long as I feel I can create, I will keep doing it. No one can stop me from making music,” he asserts.

Meanwhile, the team behind Sardaar Ji 3 has announced that the film will release internationally on June 27, excluding India. The decision has added to the ongoing debate around cross-border collaborations and artistic freedom in the entertainment industry.
