CJCSC Gen Sahir Shamshad visits Australia to boost defence cooperation

Published on: June 27, 2025 6:05 PM

RAWALPINDI – Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza is currently on an official visit to Australia to strengthen defence and security cooperation between the two nations, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During the visit, General Sahir took part in the 14th Annual Defence and Security Dialogue, a key platform designed to promote deeper strategic ties and military collaboration. The dialogue serves as an important milestone in enhancing mutual understanding and shared goals on both regional and global fronts.

In addition to the dialogue, the CJCSC held several high-level meetings with Australian civil and military leaders. He met with Admiral David Jonathan, Chief of Defence Forces; Andrew Shearer, Director General of the Office of National Intelligence; Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, Chief of the Australian Army; and Gemma Huggins, Ambassador for Counter-Terrorism at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

According to ISPR, these meetings focused on boosting defence cooperation, improving strategic communication, and identifying new areas for joint efforts. Both sides exchanged views on current global security challenges, terrorism threats, and the evolving regional security landscape.

The visit reflects Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to expand its international partnerships and contribute to global peace and security. By engaging with trusted allies like Australia, Pakistan aims to share knowledge, build stronger defence networks, and promote mutual cooperation on key security matters.

This initiative highlights Pakistan’s broader commitment to diplomacy, regional stability, and collaborative security strategies. The CJCSC’s meetings mark a continued effort to strengthen ties with global partners and promote a peaceful, secure environment in an increasingly interconnected world.
