WASHINGTON/DOHA – The U.S. Department of Defense has officially confirmed that Iran carried out a ballistic missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar — a key military facility used by American forces in the region. The strike, which took place on June 23, directly hit a specialized communication dome used to secure sensitive U.S. military communications.
In a rare admission, the Pentagon acknowledged the accuracy of the Iranian strike, revealing that a ballistic missile successfully targeted the dome. This infrastructure plays a critical role in protecting classified data exchanges and operational communications among U.S. forces in the Middle East.
Shortly after the confirmation, satellite images before and after the attack were released. The photos clearly show the destruction of the dome structure, located inside the high-security perimeter of the base. The blast caused significant structural damage but, according to early reports, casualties were avoided, likely due to early evacuation warnings.
While Qatari officials have remained silent on the matter, international defense analysts believe this strike was part of Iran’s broader regional retaliation strategy. U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in, stating that Iran had telegraphed the attack in advance, allowing U.S. and Qatari forces to temporarily vacate the base. This advance warning likely minimized the potential loss of life and equipment.
