‘Wednesday’ returns with darker mysteries and more family drama

Published on: August 2, 2025 3:06 PM

Netflix’s hit series Wednesday is back after nearly three years, bringing more mystery, fantasy, and Addams family charm. Season Two premiered in London on Wednesday, where the cast and creators walked a purple carpet outside Westminster’s Central Hall. Jenna Ortega returns as Wednesday Addams, now facing new supernatural challenges while trying to navigate her psychic powers and the chaos of her unusual family.

This season, Wednesday is hailed as a hero at Nevermore Academy, a title she clearly doesn’t enjoy. Alongside battling strange forces, she must deal with the arrival of her younger brother Pugsley, played by Isaac Ordonez, who joins the academy. With her parents also frequently appearing on campus, Wednesday struggles to balance school life, mystery-solving, and complicated family dynamics.

According to showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series is “bigger and better” in every way. They shared that Season Two brings more focus to the Addams family, offering deeper storylines for each character. New faces also join the mix, including Steve Buscemi as the Nevermore principal and Joanna Lumley as Grandmama Hester Frump, adding fresh layers to the eerie universe.

Pop icon Lady Gaga surprises fans with a guest appearance as a teacher in Part Two, adding even more excitement to the new season. Meanwhile, themes like female friendship and generational family bonds take center stage. Millar explained the story explores three generations of Addams women and Wednesday’s journey toward accepting that she can’t control everything.

Jenna Ortega not only stars in the lead role but also serves as executive producer for this season. Her co-star Emma Myers praised her for being a supportive leader on set, helping bring everyone’s creative ideas forward. Ortega shared that the role gave her more freedom rather than control, allowing her to connect deeply with the cast and crew.

Filmmaker Tim Burton, who helped shape the first season’s style, returns as director and executive producer. Season Two will be released in two parts, with the first four episodes dropping on August 6, and the remaining four arriving on September 3. Fans can expect more suspense, stronger emotions, and a thrilling continuation of the spooky saga.
