May 9 case: Shershah gets five-day police remand

Published on: August 23, 2025 3:48 PM

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore handed over Shershah Khan, nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan, to police on a five-day remand. Shershah is the son of Aleema Khan and is linked to the May 9 Jinnah House attack case. Police requested a 30-day remand, but the court limited it to five days after hearing both sides. The case relates to violent protests following Imran Khan’s arrest.

During the hearing, the investigating officer showed video evidence claiming Shershah was present at the Jinnah House attack scene. The officer said that photogrammetric and polygraphic tests still need to be done. He explained that Shershah’s name surfaced through supplementary statements, requiring extended custody for thorough investigation.

Shershah’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, argued that the suspect was wrongly implicated to harass him. He questioned the case’s credibility, pointing out a 27-month delay before charges surfaced. Raja warned that if such actions continued, it could lead to mass arrests across the city. He asked the court to reject the police’s request and release Shershah.

After reviewing the evidence and arguments, the ATC reserved its verdict initially. It later approved only a five-day physical remand instead of the full 30 days requested by police. This shorter remand gives investigators time to continue their work while respecting legal safeguards.

The case involves attacks on the Jinnah House, the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence, during protests sparked by Imran Khan’s arrest. The Sarwar Road police station registered the case against Shershah and others. The ongoing investigations aim to hold those responsible for the violence accountable.
