Punjab vows no flour price hikes despite floods: Azma Bokhari

Published on: September 9, 2025 5:05 PM

LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said the province has no shortage of wheat. She warned that no one will be allowed to raise flour prices under the pretext of floods. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, she added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is closely monitoring wheat and flour prices. However, some elements want to exploit the flood disaster for profit.

Azma Bukhari announced that all flour mill owners, traders, and related parties have three days to register their wheat stock. Otherwise, strict legal action will be taken. She emphasized there will be no compromise on the Rs14 price of bread.

She also criticized the negligence in Khanewal where government wheat was lost in floodwaters due to delayed removal. As a result, the DG Food Khanewal and related staff were suspended. She stressed that every grain of wheat belongs to the public and must be protected.

The minister reaffirmed that the government fixed wheat prices at Rs3000 and bread at Rs14. No compromise will be tolerated on these rates.

Azma Bukhari also criticized PTI’s election boycott, calling it a drama since their names appeared on ballot papers. She expressed confidence that Rana Sanaullah will be elected senator with a strong majority, calling it an honor for PML-N to support him. She condemned PTI’s recent violence against journalist Tayyab Baloch, saying PTI has proven itself a party of chaos, not politics.
