Pakistan to witness stunning Supermoon on October 7

Published on: October 4, 2025 5:13 PM

Pakistan will witness its first supermoon of 2025 on October 7. According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), the moon will appear larger and brighter than usual. This happens when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth, called perigee. At this time, the moon will be about 361,400 kilometers away. The last supermoon was seen in November 2024.

At perigee, the full moon looks nearly 14% larger and 30% brighter than a regular full moon. Suparco explained that the moon may seem even bigger when seen near the horizon. This effect is a well-known optical illusion that sky-watchers often observe. The brightness and size make the supermoon a favorite event for stargazers.

Suparco confirmed this will be the first of several supermoons expected in the coming months. Three more are forecast on November 5 and December 5, 2025, and another in early January 2026. However, the January event will not be counted in the 2025 cycle. On average, the world sees three to four supermoons each year.

The supermoon is expected to light up the sky across Pakistan, weather permitting. People are advised to watch the sky just after moonrise for the best view. No special equipment is needed, but binoculars can enhance the experience. Clear skies will offer the best chance to enjoy the full beauty of the event.

This rare lunar event offers both beauty and a chance to learn more about our moon. Suparco encourages the public to take interest in astronomy. As more people look to the skies, such events help spark curiosity and promote science awareness across the country.
