Saad Rafique Urges “Permanent Rules of Coexistence”

Published on: October 18, 2025 12:19 PM

Pakistan, Afghanistan must agree on clear rules for coexistence, says Khawaja Saad Rafique

LAHORE – Senior Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday said that the upcoming Pakistan–Afghanistan talks in Doha carry immense importance for regional peace and stability.

Commenting on recent tensions between the two neighbors, Rafique emphasized that Islamabad and Kabul must establish clear, permanent rules of coexistence, grounded in mutual respect and the understanding that “geography cannot be changed.”

He noted that despite historical ups and downs in bilateral relations, the people of both countries share deep cultural, linguistic, and religious ties, which should serve as a foundation for lasting peace.

Rafique cautioned, however, that while Afghanistan has every right to maintain relations with India, those ties must not come at the expense of Pakistan’s security interests.

The PML-N leader further stressed that Pakistan must ensure Afghanistan halts the export of armed extremists, particularly given the extensive humanitarian and economic support Islamabad continues to extend — including the provision of food, essential goods, and trade access.

He concluded that the Doha dialogue offers a critical opportunity for both nations to move beyond conflict and define a stable framework for coexistence and cooperation.
