Rubio vows return of all hostage bodies from Gaza

Published on: October 25, 2025 7:12 PM

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio pledged Saturday to secure the return of all deceased hostages still held in Gaza. He met families of American-Israeli captives and said, “We will not rest until their – and all – remains are returned.” Rubio visited Israel to show support for families and stress US commitment to resolving the crisis.

He met the families of Itay Chen and Omer Neutra, who died during Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023. Chen, 19, a dual Israeli-American soldier, was killed at the Gaza border, and his body was taken to Gaza. Neutra, 21, a US-Israeli volunteer soldier, had moved from New York to Israel and joined the military to honor his parents’ country.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum welcomed Rubio’s remarks, highlighting that 13 deceased hostages remain in Gaza. The group urged continued international efforts until all bodies are returned. It also praised the US for backing Israel in securing justice and closure for families affected by the conflict.

A US-brokered ceasefire came into effect on October 10, leading to the release of all 20 living hostages. Israel has returned 15 bodies so far, while 13 remain in Gaza. In return, Israel released nearly 2,000 prisoners and several Palestinian bodies, reflecting progress under diplomatic mediation.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel carried out airstrikes Sunday after troops came under attack, killing two soldiers. Later, Israel reinforced the truce, showing both sides’ willingness to maintain calm while pursuing diplomatic solutions.
