Security worries keep Pakistan out of India Hockey cup

Published on: October 29, 2025 9:19 PM

Pakistan’s junior hockey team will not participate in the 2025 Junior World Cup in India. The decision comes after serious security concerns were raised. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has confirmed Pakistan’s withdrawal and updated the tournament schedule. Oman has replaced Pakistan based on its better ranking. The World Cup is scheduled from November 28 to December 10, 2025.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) made the decision on October 22, following a high-level meeting in Islamabad. Officials discussed recent incidents in sports between India and Pakistan. They focused especially on the negative behavior of the Indian cricket team during the Asia Cup. Safety of the players was the main concern for both the PHF and the government. They decided that sending the team to India was too risky.

The PHF has communicated its decision to Hockey India. Officials emphasized that security cannot be compromised for any event. They reassured the public that players’ well-being comes first. The federation also noted that Oman’s inclusion ensures the tournament remains competitive. Meanwhile, preparations continue in India for the upcoming World Cup.

Experts say this withdrawal highlights ongoing tensions in sports relations between the two countries. Analysts warn that political and security issues often affect international sporting events. Fans from Pakistan expressed disappointment but supported the decision for safety reasons. Social media discussions show mixed reactions, with some calling it a responsible move. Others hope for future collaboration in less tense environments.

Organizers promise strict security measures for all visiting teams. Oman will now take Pakistan’s place in the tournament lineup. The event aims to showcase young hockey talent despite challenges off the field.
