PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Friday announced his much-awaited provincial cabinet, comprising ten ministers, two advisers, and one special assistant. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Governor House later today at 3pm.

According to an official summary shared with Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Afridi appointed Meena Khan Afridi, Arshad Ayub Khan, Amjad Ali, Aftab Alam Khan, Fazal Shakoor Khan, Khaleequr Rahman, Riaz Khan, Syed Fakhar Jehan, Aqibullah Khan, and Faisal Khan as provincial ministers. Muzammil Aslam and Taj Muhammad were named as advisers, while Shafi Jan was appointed as the special assistant. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) KP chapter confirmed these appointments on social media platform X.

Governor Kundi, in a statement, confirmed that he had signed the summary for the cabinet formation, paving the way for the oath-taking ceremony. He congratulated the newly appointed members and expressed hope that the new team would help strengthen governance in the province.

Chief Minister Afridi, elected earlier this month, had initially said he would finalise his cabinet only after consulting PTI founder Imran Khan. However, after being unable to meet the incarcerated former premier, Afridi received a message from Imran’s sister granting him full authority to form the provincial team.

The delay in cabinet formation had drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties, who accused the ruling PTI of stalling administrative affairs in the province. They had warned that prolonged inaction could lead to governance challenges or even the imposition of an emergency. The PTI’s provincial leadership had earlier emphasised that individuals with corruption allegations would not be included in the new setup.
