COMSATS University holds symposium on advanced energy materials

The third International Symposium on Advanced Energy Materials (ISAEM 2025) was held at IRCBM, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, in collaboration with the East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, China. The symposium was jointly funded by the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the inaugural session attended by Symposium Secretary Dr. Muhammad Nasir, Head of IRCBM Prof. Dr. Anila Asif, Director CUI Lahore Prof. Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, Registrar CUI Dr. Faheem A. Qureshi, Dean Faculty of Sciences Prof. Dr. Jamshed Iqbal, and Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Lahore Prof. Dr. Aqif Anwar Chaudhry. The speakers emphasized the pressing challenges in the energy sector, the role of modern scientific research, and the vital importance of strengthening international collaboration to address Pakistan’s growing energy needs.

The Plenary Lecture in the opening ceremony was delivered by Prof. Dr. Jinlong Zhang from the East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, China. He highlighted the importance of deepening scientific cooperation between Pakistan and China and shared insights into cutting-edge advancements in photocatalysis and hydrogen evolution technologies.

During the scientific sessions, Prof. Dr. Liang Zhou and Prof. Ziwie Ye, also from the East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, China presented their pioneering research on energy storage, nanomaterials, and photocatalyst technology, reflecting the latest global developments in these domains.

Researchers and scholars from leading Pakistani and international universities participated in the symposium, including Government College University (GCU) Lahore, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Islamabad, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), FAST-National University, Quaid-e-Awam University Nawabshah, University of the Punjab, and International Islamic University Madina, Saudi Arabia.

Experts at the symposium underscored that continued research and innovation in advanced energy materials could pave the way for sustainable and renewable energy solutions in the future. The event concluded with strong commitments from organizers and participants to further advance scientific research, technology transfer, and international cooperation for Pakistan’s progress in the energy sector.
