PML-N Dominates By-Election Results Amid Low Turnout

PML-N Dominates By-Election Results Amid Low Turnout

The by-election results showed a strong lead for the PML-N across most constituencies in Punjab and KP. The ruling party won several National Assembly seats in Lahore, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal and Faisalabad, while PPP secured one seat in Muzaffargarh. PTI contested only two NA seats and boycotted the rest, which further reduced competition. However, unofficial trends continued to shift through the night as more data came in.

The PML-N also led in multiple provincial constituencies and secured wins in Sargodha, Mianwali, Sahiwal and several Faisalabad seats. PPP won PP-269 after the PML-N chose not to field a candidate there. Turnout remained low in most areas despite government claims of active participation. Several polling stations saw empty rooms for hours, and mosque announcements urged people to vote. Many areas reported visible police presence but very few voters.

In Haripur, both PML-N and PTI claimed victory as competing tallies emerged. PTI shared results showing a lead, while the ECP dashboard showed the PML-N candidate ahead. Meanwhile, Lahore’s NA-129 saw a clear PML-N win with a strong margin. Other constituencies in Faisalabad and Sahiwal also reported comfortable leads for the ruling party. These by-election results put the PML-N in a stronger parliamentary position.

However, the elections sparked accusations of rigging and mismanagement. PTI leaders alleged missing ballot books, harassment of party workers and the removal of their polling camps. They claimed presiding officers received fewer ballot papers than listed. The ECP said discrepancies were clerical errors and denied wrongdoing. Opposition leaders in Punjab and KP accused the commission of bias in staffing and symbol allocation. Several clashes and complaints were also reported at polling stations.

Election officials downplayed the low turnout, saying the polls did not affect national power dynamics. Analysts noted that if the PML-N maintains these by-election results, it may not require PPP support to hold a simple majority in the National Assembly. Despite allegations and low participation, the ruling party strengthened its legislative position. The by-election results concluded with PML-N holding a decisive advantage across key constituencies.
