KARACHI: A fire erupted in a freight train at the Cantonment Station on Sunday, destroying goods stored in two bogies, officials said. Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan reported that the train was transporting imported goods to a dry port in Punjab when the blaze broke out.

The affected bogies contained dried fruits, solar inverters and batteries, all of which were damaged, with one bogie’s goods completely gutted. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to control the flames, though the cause of the fire remained unknown till late night.

Despite the extensive loss, officials confirmed that the freight train resumed its journey after the incident. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the possible source of the fire.

In a separate incident, a shop on the ground floor of a high-rise in Soldier Bazaar caught fire on Sunday evening. Smoke spread to the residential floors, leaving two people unconscious due to inhalation before they were rescued and shifted to hospital. The shop was completely destroyed.
