Daniel Radcliffe’s heartfelt letter stuns new Harry Potter star

Published on: December 1, 2025 9:30 PM

Dominic McLaughlin, the young actor leading the upcoming Harry Potter series, shared his excitement after receiving a surprise letter from Daniel Radcliffe. The child star said he was completely shocked by the gesture and described the note as “insane,” calling it a moment he will never forget. Moreover, the heartfelt message arrived at a time when he is stepping into one of the most iconic roles in television history.

Revealing the moment, McLaughlin said he was travelling home to Glasgow when his father handed him the unexpected envelope. As he read through the letter, he reached the signature signed simply as “Dan R.,” which made him almost lose his composure. However, he tried to stay calm since he was on a public train, even though he was thrilled beyond words.

Radcliffe, now 36, confirmed weeks earlier that he wrote to the young cast, saying he felt a strong emotional connection after seeing their photos. He expressed how surreal it felt to watch new actors take on roles he once played as a child. Additionally, he said he hoped the young cast members were enjoying every moment of their journey into the magical world.

McLaughlin’s wholesome reaction has been warmly received by fans, who admire the supportive link between the original star and his successor. Furthermore, the letter reflects Radcliffe’s long-standing appreciation for the franchise and the young actors stepping into its legacy. Their interaction highlights a touching passing of the torch between two generations of Harry Potter stars.

For context, McLaughlin was officially announced as the new Harry Potter in May and has been filming the series throughout the summer. Meanwhile, Radcliffe remains beloved for his portrayal of the character in all eight films from 2001 to 2011. As anticipation grows, fans are eager to see how McLaughlin carries forward the magic in the new HBO adaptation.
