Pakistani female cop beats Indian rival to win two golds at world powerlifting

Published on: December 5, 2025 1:25 AM

Inspector Iram Khanam secures first place in the powerlifting category and also clinches gold in the deadlift competition

Lady Inspector Iram Khanam of Rawalpindi Police has won two gold medals at the World Powerlifting Championship 2025 in Sri Lanka, defeating top Indian competitors to secure first place in both her categories.

Police officials said the officer claimed gold in the powerlifting event as well as the deadlift competition, marking a major international achievement for Punjab Police and Pakistan. Her victory earned widespread praise within the force.

Inspector Iram has already built a strong career in national sports. Earlier this year, she clinched one gold and two silver medals at the Inter-Region Archery Championship held in Rawalpindi on October 4.

She followed it with another gold medal at a powerlifting championship in Farooqabad on October 23, further solidifying her reputation as one of the leading female athletes in the police service.

After returning to Rawalpindi, the officer was welcomed at the City Police Office, where personnel applauded her performance.

City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani congratulated her on the achievement, describing her as a “shining star of Punjab Police.”

He said her success was a moment of pride not only for the police department but for the entire country.
