NEPRA slashes power tariff by Rs0.88 for December

Published on: December 9, 2025 6:36 PM

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a temporary reduction in electricity tariffs. The power rate will drop by Rs0.88 per unit for one month. This relief will appear in December electricity bills.

The concession applies to all consumers of power distribution companies, including K-Electric. However, lifeline consumers and electric vehicle charging stations are excluded from the reduction. NEPRA emphasized that the move targets ordinary consumers.

The reduction is expected to provide significant relief amid rising household expenses. Officials said it will help consumers manage electricity costs during the winter season. The decision reflects NEPRA’s commitment to easing financial burdens.

NEPRA issued a formal notification detailing the new rates. All electricity distribution companies are instructed to apply the reduction automatically. The announcement has been welcomed by industry watchers and consumer groups alike.

The move is temporary and covers only the December billing cycle. Authorities noted that future adjustments will depend on fuel prices, power generation costs, and overall economic conditions. Consumers are advised to check their bills carefully.
