Thick fog forces closure of Punjab motorways

Published on: December 21, 2025 4:05 PM

Thick fog and cloudy weather have engulfed several parts of Punjab, reducing visibility to dangerous levels and forcing authorities to close multiple motorways to ensure motorists’ safety.

The Motorway Police announced the closure of M2 from Lahore to Kot Momin, M3 from Lahore to Samundri, M11 in Sialkot, and M4 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad due to poor visibility.

Officials advised that safe travel hours in foggy conditions are from 10am to 6pm. In addition, Sundar, Manga Mandi, Phool Nagar, and Pattoki on national highways also experienced zero to 100 metres visibility.

Flight schedules have also been affected by the dense fog, with multiple departures and arrivals at Lahore airport delayed or rescheduled, highlighting the widespread impact of current weather conditions on transportation.

NHMP Central Region spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad emphasised that these closures aim to protect lives and property, urging drivers to follow lane discipline as violations in low visibility can cause severe accidents.

Authorities continue monitoring conditions and will reopen the affected routes once visibility improves, advising motorists to stay updated with official instructions and avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous weather.
