Pakistani army chief receives Saudi honour for strengthening ties

Saudi Arabia awards King Abdulaziz Medal to Field Marshal Asim Munir - HUM News

Saudi Arabia has conferred the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class on Pakistani Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, recognising his role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. The award was presented by Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz during a meeting in Riyadh.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the medal was awarded in appreciation of Field Marshal Munir’s “distinguished efforts” to advance strategic cooperation and defence ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The ceremony took place during the Saudi defence minister’s official reception of the Pakistani military chief.

Prince Khalid congratulated Field Marshal Munir on his appointment as Pakistan’s chief of defence forces and wished him success in his new responsibilities. The two sides also reviewed the long-standing historical relationship between the two countries and discussed defence cooperation, regional security, and shared strategic interests.

In a statement posted on social media, the Saudi defence minister said the award was conferred on the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. He noted that the honour reflected Field Marshal Munir’s contributions to enhancing cooperation and advancing Saudi-Pakistani relations.

Pakistan’s military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, said the meeting covered issues of mutual interest, including defence and military collaboration, regional security dynamics, and evolving geopolitical challenges. It said the interaction reaffirmed the deep-rooted and brotherly ties between the two nations.

ISPR described the King Abdulaziz Medal as Saudi Arabia’s highest national honour, noting that it recognises Field Marshal Munir’s leadership and his role in promoting defence cooperation, strategic coordination, and institutional linkages. It also acknowledged his contributions towards regional peace and stability, including collaboration in counter-terrorism.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have recently expanded defence cooperation, including the signing of a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement earlier this year. Both countries have reiterated their commitment to elevating their long-standing partnership to new strategic levels.
