14 Years Later, Steven Spielberg's 88% RT Rated Sci-Fi Action Series Lands on Netflix

The post-apocalyptic sci-fi show first aired on TNT from June 2011 to August 2015 and quickly developed a loyal fan base for its mix of large-scale alien warfare and human survival drama. Set in the aftermath of a devastating extraterrestrial attack, Falling Skies portrays a world where governments have collapsed and much of humanity has been wiped out.

The story centres on Tom Mason, a Boston history professor portrayed by Noah Wyle, who is forced to adapt to life in a shattered society. After losing his wife during the initial alien assault and seeing one of his sons captured by the invaders, Mason joins a resistance group known as the 2nd Massachusetts.

Serving as second-in-command to military leader Captain Dan Weaver, Mason uses his expertise in military history to help the group understand the alien threat and devise strategies to fight back. As the series progresses, the survivors uncover unsettling truths about the invaders, revealing them to be a highly intelligent and heavily armed force with mysterious motives on Earth.

Produced by DreamWorks Television and later by Spielberg’s Amblin Television, Falling Skies was created by screenwriter Robert Rodat. Over its five-season run, the show earned generally positive reviews, with critics praising its character-driven storytelling and ambitious science-fiction themes.

Alongside Wyle, the ensemble cast includes Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Jessy Schram, Maxim Knight, Seychelle Gabriel, Peter Shinkoda, Mpho Koaho, Connor Jessup, Will Patton, Sarah Carter, Colin Cunningham, Doug Jones and Scarlett Byrne.
