KOHAT: At least four people were killed and two others remain trapped after a landslide hit Qamar village in Gambat tehsil of Kohat on Tuesday.

Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene following reports of the incident. Officials said the teams retrieved four bodies trapped under boulders after strenuous efforts. Rescue operations are ongoing to locate the remaining two individuals believed to be buried under the debris.
Eyewitnesses said the landslide struck suddenly while locals were attempting to repair a damaged water channel in the area. Tons of earth and rocks swept through the village, burying several people. Four others were rescued in critical condition and shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency care.
Last year, widespread monsoon rains triggered multiple landslides across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in several fatalities. In August, eight local volunteers lost their lives in Gilgit while repairing a flood-damaged nullah. Authorities had placed emergency services on high alert following those incidents.
Officials have urged villagers to exercise caution and avoid working near unstable slopes, as heavy rainfall continues to increase the risk of landslides in mountainous regions.
Search and rescue teams remain on site, coordinating with local authorities to ensure swift recovery of those still trapped. Police and emergency personnel have deployed additional resources to assist in the operation and provide medical aid to survivors.
