SUKKUR: Six policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, have been arrested for allegedly raping a girl while she was in custody at a Jacobabad police station, officials said on Monday. The arrests followed an inquiry conducted by Jacobabad SSP Mohammad Kaleem Malik into allegations made by the victim in a video statement.

A preliminary medical examination confirmed that the girl had been subjected to sexual assault. The victim, her sister, and grandmother had been detained at RD-52 police station in Taluka Thul in connection with a murder investigation. They reportedly remained in custody for several days.

The SSP stated that acting on directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), he conducted a formal inquiry. The investigation found that the six policemen committed the assault in the absence of the station house officer (SHO).

The victim was taken to Thul Taluka Hospital, where Dr Husna Channa examined her and collected DNA samples for testing. Following the inquiry, the SSP suspended all six policemen and ordered their arrest.

A formal First Information Report (FIR) was registered based on a complaint from the victim’s grandmother under Sections 375-A (rape), 344 (wrongful confinement for 10 or more days), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

District and Sessions Judge Syed Sharafuddin Shah has taken notice of the custodial rape and issued notices to the investigating officer and all involved parties for Tuesday. Authorities said the case is being pursued with priority, highlighting growing concerns over custodial abuse in the region.
