Pakistani lawmakers arrive in Washington for talks

Published on: January 21, 2026 6:15 PM

A Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by Senator Babar Siraj Khan Nasir, arrived in Washington Tuesday evening. The team includes members of both the Senate and National Assembly and will meet US lawmakers and officials. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and engage the Pakistani diaspora in promoting national causes.

The delegation will participate in several events, starting with an Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) session at the Rayburn House Office Building. This will be followed by a press conference at the National Press Club and a diplomatic reception in New Jersey. Key US participants include Congressmen Al Green, Ron Estes, Tom Suozzi, Laura Gillen, and Josh Gottheimer.

Pakistani representatives, including Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Rana Mehmoodul Hassan, will discuss parliamentary cooperation, trade, security, and diaspora-enabled diplomacy. Organizers say the visit seeks to deepen legislative dialogue and highlight Pakistan’s role in regional stability and global diplomacy.

Dr. Gholam Mujtaba of the Pakistan Policy Institute USA said the delegation will emphasize Pakistan’s strategic relevance, democratic values, and the contributions of the Pakistani-American community. Media briefings are expected to cover trade, investment, counterterrorism, and areas of potential cooperation between the two countries.
