ICC ready to replace Bangladesh in World Cup

Published on: January 21, 2026 5:54 PM

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to include a replacement team if Bangladesh skips the World Cup in India. Officials said this move ensures the tournament proceeds smoothly without delays or disruptions. The ICC gave the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) a one-day window to decide on participation.

According to sources, the ICC Board Members held a meeting today and voted on the issue. The majority supported including an alternative team if Bangladesh refuses to travel. Meanwhile, the ICC asked the BCB to immediately inform the government about the possible consequences of not sending the team.

The ICC warned that if Bangladesh does not travel, another team will take its place in the World Cup. Officials emphasized that the tournament’s schedule and fairness must remain intact. They also stressed that member boards must respect ICC decisions and international cricket protocols.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board now faces pressure from both the ICC and its government to make a quick decision. The ICC highlighted that delaying the decision could force organizers to finalize replacement arrangements quickly. This situation has sparked discussions among fans and cricket analysts worldwide.
