Punjab police push for bulletproof vehicles for ATC judges

Published on: January 27, 2026 5:23 PM

Punjab Police have submitted a formal proposal to the chief minister seeking new bulletproof vehicles for Anti-Terrorism Court judges, aiming to strengthen security for officials handling high-risk terrorism cases. The move reflects growing concerns over judicial safety and mobility.

The Security Division in Lahore has identified an urgent need for 11 armoured vehicles dedicated to the protection of ATC judges. Officials stressed that upgraded transport facilities are crucial for judges overseeing sensitive cases, ensuring their safe movement across the city.

According to the submitted summary, the total cost of acquiring and bulletproofing the vehicles is expected to exceed Rs230 million. This figure includes the purchase of modern vehicles as well as the installation of high-grade protective armour to enhance security.

Furthermore, the proposal highlights the importance of proactive security measures for the judiciary, emphasizing that judges working on terrorism-related cases face unique risks. Authorities believe that providing bulletproof transport will prevent potential threats and maintain law and order.

The government is currently reviewing the summary, and a final decision is expected after thorough evaluation by the chief minister and relevant departments. Approval of the plan would mark a significant step toward improving judicial safety in Punjab.

Overall, the initiative aligns with broader efforts to protect public institutions and strengthen law enforcement infrastructure. Enhanced security measures for ATC judges are expected to boost confidence in the justice system while safeguarding key officials.
