Punjab launches 47bn-rupee Ramadan package: Bukhari

Published on: January 28, 2026 4:45 PM

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari announced a 47 billion-rupee Ramadan Neghban package on Wednesday. The program will benefit 4.2 million families through Ramadan Neghban cards. The initiative is part of the provincial government’s wider social welfare efforts.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Bukhari said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s projects are reaching millions of people. She highlighted initiatives like Suthra Punjab, Ramadan Neghban, field hospitals, and other public welfare programs as government priorities.

Last year, 3 million families received 10,000 rupees each via pay orders. This year, Ramadan Neghban cards have already been printed. Families will receive them before Ramadan, expanding coverage to 4.2 million beneficiaries.

Bukhari said after February 5, the government will have complete data of all citizens. Families earning less than 45,000 rupees per month are included. A household survey, similar to a census, was conducted to identify eligible recipients.

She added that convenience markets will offer goods 10 to 15 rupees cheaper. In 30 districts, 65 such markets are active. The government will also provide iftar meals for at least 2,000 people per tehsil through the “Neghban Dastarkhwan” program and continue strict action against profiteering.
