Google Pixel Tablet to receive two extra Android updates

Published on: January 30, 2026 2:40 PM

Google just gave the Pixel Tablet two more years to live - PhoneArena

In a welcome move for Pixel Tablet owners, Google has extended the device’s software support by two years, ensuring OS and security updates until June 2028. The announcement was confirmed on Google’s support page for the Pixel Tablet, which previously stated that Android OS updates would end in June 2026, while security updates would continue through June 2028.

With this extension, the Pixel Tablet—Google’s only tablet to date—will now receive two additional Android OS updates, bringing its total software support period to five years. The device, launched in 2023, is powered by the Tensor G2 chipset, the same found in the Pixel 7 series.

After the Pixel 6, 7 series and Original Fold, Google has extended the Pixel Tablet’s software support, guaranteeing both Android OS and security updates through June 2028.

This is part of Google’s broader effort to extend support for its older devices. In late 2024, the company similarly extended OS and security updates for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series from three to five years, responding to growing demand for longer device lifespans.

Despite the extended support, Google has confirmed that plans for a new Pixel Tablet are on hold. Rumours about a Pixel Tablet 2 emerged shortly after the original device’s launch, followed by speculation of a Pixel Tablet 3, but the company has not committed to producing a successor.

The Pixel Tablet has struggled to compete with dominant players like Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. While it received praise for its build quality and integration with Google’s ecosystem, the device failed to achieve significant market traction.

Nonetheless, the software support extension is a positive step for current users, ensuring they can continue receiving Android OS enhancements, security patches, and overall longevity for their devices.
