
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi said 69 of 79 victims of the Gul Plaza fire have been handed to families. DNA testing is underway for three bodies. Authorities continue searching for the remaining seven victims’ families.
The rescue operation at the Gul Plaza shopping mall was completed days ago, and the site has been sealed. Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab confirmed the FIR has been registered, and the investigation report will be released soon.

A fact-finding committee was formed under Commissioner Naqvi on Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s orders. Rescue operations were carried out by multiple rescue bodies and volunteers over several days.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon requested a judicial inquiry into the tragedy through the Sindh High Court. He admitted delays in providing water to fire tenders, citing administrative lapses that worsened the fire.

The government suspended several officials over safety failures. Civil Defence and Karachi Water authorities faced action due to ignored warnings and inadequate emergency preparedness. Investigations and departmental proceedings are ongoing.
