
The Ministry of Interior informed the Senate that nearly 195,000 computerized national identity cards have been blocked across Pakistan during the last three years as part of ongoing verification and accountability measures.
According to official data, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest number with 72,703 blocked CNICs, followed by Sindh with 49,666 cases, highlighting serious documentation and verification challenges.

Meanwhile, Punjab reported 29,852 blocked identity cards, while Balochistan recorded 34,990 cases, showing that the issue remains widespread across all major provinces.
In addition, Islamabad registered 5,731 blocked CNICs, while 1,410 were blocked in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 758 in Gilgit-Baltistan during the same period.

Officials said that 130,885 CNICs were blocked under Section 18, while 64,225 were suspended following court orders linked to legal and verification disputes.
Although more than 46,000 CNICs have been restored, authorities confirmed that over 148,000 remain blocked, mainly due to incorrect information and unresolved legal cases.
