Kuwaiti crown prince endorses Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between US and Iran

Published on: March 28, 2026 3:52 AM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah, held a high-level telephonic conversation on Friday to discuss the escalating Middle East crisis and bilateral cooperation.

In a significant diplomatic development, the Kuwaiti Crown Prince expressed full support for Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran, the PM Office stated. The endorsement comes as Islamabad reportedly prepares to host crucial face-to-face talks aimed at de-escalating the regional conflict.

According to the PMO, Prime Minister Shehbaz briefed the Kuwaiti leadership on Pakistan’s “sincere diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the war in the Middle East”, receiving deep appreciation for his leadership during the crisis.

PM Shehbaz on March 24 said Pakistan stood ready and honoured to be the host to facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks for a comprehensive settlement of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, subject to concurrence by the US and Iran.

“Pakistan welcomes and fully supports ongoing efforts to pursue dialogue to end the war in Middle East, in the interest of peace and stability in region and beyond,” PM Shehbaz had said in a post on his X account.

Subsequently, President Trump had also shared PM Shehbaz’s statement on his Truth Social platform.

The development had come a day after international media reported that mediating nations had reportedly started working to convene high-level talks in Islamabad in a bid to ease tensions in the Middle East, as reported by an Axios reporter Barak Ravid as well on March 23 citing sources.

In his telephonic conversation today, PM Shehbaz also reiterated Pakistan’s “strong condemnation” of recent attacks on Kuwait, reaffirming Islamabad’s unwavering solidarity with the Kuwaiti people.

The PM offered prayers for the victims of the recent violence and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The premier assured Kuwait that Pakistan remains committed to its “constructive role” in restoring regional peace and stability.

The crown prince thanked PM Shehbaz for his recent letter of solidarity addressed to the Kuwaiti leadership and also expressed his desire to visit Pakistan, as soon as the regional security situation improves.
