Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on April 6 urged promoting eco-friendly vehicles to save foreign exchange. He praised Islamabad Traffic Police for adopting electric cars, calling it a positive step toward sustainable transport. The initiative affects law enforcement, energy policy, and national fuel expenditure.
Addressing the delivery ceremony, Shahbaz Sharif highlighted rising fuel prices and said electric vehicles will run on electricity instead of petrol. He expressed hope the project will be replicated nationwide, enhancing energy efficiency and cost savings. The first batch of 15 electric vehicles was provided to the Islamabad Traffic Police.

The vehicles are part of the government’s energy-saving policy and vision for modern transport systems. Each vehicle will have a dedicated crew, including a captain, responders, and a driver, with special uniforms for operational efficiency. The fleet will operate on key city roads to improve traffic flow and management.
A fully charged vehicle can cover 350–400 kilometers, with fast charging taking 60–90 minutes and regular charging 6–8 hours. Monthly savings per vehicle are estimated at 0.55 million rupees, allowing cost recovery within 13–14 months. An additional 15 electric vehicles will soon join the fleet.
