Under the new system, a quota will be assigned for private vehicles, and motorists will not be able to purchase fuel beyond their allocated limit. Authorities say this measure is designed to curb overuse, prevent hoarding, and promote more efficient fuel consumption.

According to sources, the system will operate using mobile handsets approved by the National IT Board and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Petrol pumps have already completed preparations for distributing these devices to ensure smooth implementation of the quota system.

The Ministry of IT has reportedly completed the testing of mobile phones to be supplied to petrol pumps, while the National IT Board has verified the devices purchased by oil marketing companies (OMCs).

In addition, a dedicated application for fuel management has been developed, and its testing has been finalized. The app will monitor fuel dispensation in real time, track vehicle quotas, and maintain transparency in the retail fuel network.

Officials emphasize that the digital system will enhance accountability at petrol pumps, reduce illicit fuel sales, and improve overall operational efficiency. It is expected to benefit both consumers and regulators by creating a more structured and data-driven approach to fuel distribution.

The government has yet to announce the official launch date, but authorities indicate that the system will roll out gradually after final verification of devices and software at all participating petrol pumps.
