Pakistan halts major war, says Khawaja Asif

Published on: April 8, 2026 8:51 PM

Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said Pakistan successfully prevented a major global war through its mediation in the US-Iran conflict. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he highlighted Pakistan’s recognition as a trusted mediator by the world, including the United States and Arab nations. He added that the ceasefire reflects Pakistan’s growing political and diplomatic influence.

Khawaja Asif praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts, saying their leadership turned weeks of tension into a successful ceasefire. He noted that Pakistan now enters a new phase of political stability, allowing greater focus on economic development and national priorities.

The minister emphasized that Pakistan’s hybrid civil-military leadership model achieved significant successes over the past few years. He said collaboration between different power centers has proven Pakistan can attain global accomplishments when working cohesively. He credited this model for Pakistan’s current diplomatic prestige.

Addressing India, Khawaja Asif remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is politically weakened and that Indian media would continue reacting to Pakistan’s success. He added that Pakistan managed to neutralize a much larger threat and continues to assert itself regionally, while India struggles to restore its image.

Khawaja Asif concluded by urging Pakistan to focus on domestic fronts, including the economy, security, and counter-terrorism. He also warned Afghanistan to respect Pakistan’s hosting efforts, noting that failure to do so may leave Pakistan with limited options in regional diplomacy.
