Bilawal calls US-Iran talks a breakthrough toward ending war

Published on: April 12, 2026 3:18 PM

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has described the ongoing US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad as a major breakthrough in global efforts to end the conflict, stressing that the talks represent a rare and positive diplomatic development. Speaking during an international media interview, he said the very fact that both sides are engaged in dialogue is a significant achievement in itself. He added that the ceasefire has created space for diplomacy to move forward.

Furthermore, Bilawal highlighted that the reduction in violence and reported halt in bombing across Iran and parts of the broader Middle East has created cautious hope for a more stable future. He expressed optimism that current discussions could develop into a lasting and permanent resolution if both sides continue engaging constructively. According to him, sustained dialogue is essential to prevent further escalation and protect civilian lives.

In addition, the PPP chairman noted that people not only in Pakistan but across the world are closely watching the negotiations with cautious optimism. He said the humanitarian and economic impact of the recent conflict has been severe and far-reaching, affecting global markets and regional stability. Bilawal emphasized that the cost of war has extended beyond borders and continues to influence international economic conditions.

Moreover, he thanked the leadership of both the United States and Iran for agreeing to maintain the ceasefire and continue negotiations despite deep differences. He also acknowledged the diplomatic efforts of several regional countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and other Gulf Cooperation Council states. He said this collective engagement reflects a shared understanding of the importance of peace and stability.

At the same time, Bilawal stressed that the recent war has shown how interconnected global security and economics have become in today’s world. He said widespread cooperation among nations has been essential in creating diplomatic space for talks to take place. According to him, only joint international efforts can ensure that ceasefire arrangements evolve into meaningful long-term peace agreements.

Overall, he concluded that the current diplomatic process represents a rare opportunity to reshape regional relations through dialogue rather than conflict. He expressed hope that continued negotiations in Islamabad will pave the way for a more stable and peaceful future. Bilawal urged all parties involved to maintain momentum and prioritize diplomacy over further escalation.
