Israeli strikes kill two in renewed Gaza unrest

Published on: April 20, 2026 10:15 PM

Israeli strikes killed at least two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to health officials. The latest violence underscores the fragility of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire in place since October. The situation continues to affect civilians across multiple areas of Gaza.

Medical sources said one man was killed in an airstrike in the Bureij camp in central Gaza. Another strike in Gaza City killed one person and injured several others. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incidents.

Separately, clashes erupted between Hamas fighters and members of an Israeli-backed militia in eastern Khan Younis. Witnesses said the confrontation occurred after armed men crossed into an area controlled by Hamas. Reports indicate the situation escalated briefly before the militia withdrew.

The ceasefire agreement, intended to reduce hostilities after years of war, has faced repeated setbacks. More than 750 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began, according to local medics. Both sides have accused each other of violating the agreement.

The emergence of small armed groups operating in contested areas has further complicated stability efforts. Analysts say these factions add pressure to an already fragile security environment. The situation continues to hinder progress toward long-term peace arrangements.
