According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake struck offshore near Iwate prefecture. The quake occurred in Pacific waters at 4:53 p.m. local time. As a result, the tremor triggered immediate concern across northern coastal areas.

Meanwhile, officials issued a tsunami advisory following the strong earthquake. Coastal residents were urged to stay alert and follow safety instructions. In addition, emergency teams monitored sea levels and seismic activity closely after the initial jolt.
