Iran IRGC seizes two vessels in Hormuz

Published on: April 22, 2026 10:56 PM

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has seized two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and transferred them to Iranian waters. The move comes amid rising maritime tensions in the strategically vital shipping route. Tehran has described security in the strait as a national red line.

According to the IRGC Navy, the vessels were intercepted as part of operations to maintain order in the waterway. Officials said any disruption to safety in the Strait of Hormuz would not be tolerated. The area is a key global energy transit route.

Earlier reports from Al Jazeera indicated that one vessel was fired upon near Iran’s coast, while another sustained damage in an attack off Oman’s shoreline. However, details of these incidents have not been independently verified.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained a focal point of regional tensions due to its importance in global oil transport. Any disruption in the area is closely monitored by international markets and shipping operators.

Iran has previously warned it could respond strongly to perceived threats in the region. The latest seizures add to ongoing uncertainty surrounding maritime security amid wider geopolitical tensions.
