Court defers framing of charges in rape case against Rajab Butt, others

Published on: April 23, 2026 2:04 AM

A sessions court on Wednesday could not frame charges against YouTuber Rajab Butt and other accused in a rape case, and adjourned the proceedings until April 27. The hearing was conducted by Additional Distruct and Sessions Judge Yasser Arafat. During the hearing, defence counsel Rana Maroof Advocate argued against the framing of charges, contending that the complainant had falsely implicated the accused. He maintained that the accused had not committed any offence and that the allegations had not been substantiated, therefore charges could not be framed. When the court asked the complainant’s lawyers to present their arguments, they sought more time to prepare. All accused, including Rajab Butt and co-accused Jawad Ali Jahangir and Abdul Rehman, along with the complainant, were present in court. The Nawab Town Police had already submitted the challan in the case, in which the complainant has levelled rape allegations against the accused. The accused, Salman Haider, has been declared an absconder in the case.
