KMC plans beautification zones across city

Published on: May 9, 2026 3:29 AM

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has decided to establish dedicated beautification zones across the city as part of its broader vision to enhance sustainable urban infrastructure, improve green spaces, and uplift the overall appearance of Karachi.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, to review the progress of ongoing development projects and infrastructure schemes being executed across various districts of the city on Friday.

During the meeting, Director General Technical Services, Tariq Mughal, briefed the Mayor on the status of district development projects, Provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) schemes, CLICK project-based works, and several other ongoing infrastructure initiatives. Detailed updates regarding timelines, execution progress, and pending work were also presented.

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab directed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion of development works within the deadlines already assigned.

He emphasized that according to forecasts, Karachi is expected to receive strong monsoon rains this year, therefore no negligence would be tolerated in projects related to road restoration, drainage improvement, and civic infrastructure.

He stated that citizens cannot be left facing hardships during the rainy season and instructed officials to accelerate ongoing work so that the city remains prepared to effectively handle the upcoming monsoon.

The Mayor observed that the impact of ongoing development initiatives has started becoming visible across the city. Several mega schemes have already been completed, while many others are in their final stages of completion.

He added that the visible progress has started restoring public confidence in civic institutions and development works being carried out by KMC.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab further directed the Engineering Department to prepare comprehensive beautification and landscaping plans for all major projects and corridors across Karachi.

He said that beautification elements, green belts, urban landscaping, plantation, decorative infrastructure, and environmentally sustainable features must be incorporated into every major development scheme.

He said that Karachi is gradually moving towards a positive transformation and that the difficult period faced by the city is nearing its end. “A better and brighter Karachi is emerging under the vision and leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” he remarked.

The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner KMC, Abrar Jaffar, Financial Advisor Gulzar Abro, Director General Technical Services Tariq Mughal, Director Media Daniyal Siyal, senior engineering officials, and other concerned officers.
