Punjab summer vacations decision pending

Published on: May 9, 2026 8:14 PM

The Punjab government has not yet finalized the schedule for summer vacations in schools, according to the provincial education minister. Officials said discussions are ongoing on multiple proposals regarding the duration and timing of the holidays. A final decision is expected in the coming days.

Earlier reports suggested that summer vacations in government schools could begin soon and continue for several weeks. However, the School Education Department has only prepared initial proposals, which are still awaiting official approval from the provincial government.

Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat clarified that no final decision has been made regarding the summer break. He said several options are currently under consideration, and stakeholders are being consulted before approval.

Officials indicated that the department has drafted possible timelines for the holidays, but these remain subject to change. The final schedule will depend on government approval and policy decisions in the coming days.

The announcement comes amid ongoing speculation about school closures due to rising temperatures. Authorities said the final notification will be issued once all consultations are completed and a consensus is reached.
