Police arrests main suspect involved in desecration of holy Quran

Published on: May 11, 2026 7:25 AM

Shaheed Benazirabad Police has claimed to have arrest the main suspect involved in the desecration of the Holy Quran within 24 hours of the incident.

According to police on Sunday, the incident occurred in a mosque located in village Golo Dahri within the jurisdiction of Qazi Ahmed Police Station, where the reported desecration caused widespread grief and anger among local residents. Taking immediate notice of the situation, SSP Shaheed Benazirabad Dr. Sameer Noor Channa directed the officers to ensure swift action and emphasized that there would be zero tolerance for any act against religious sanctity.

Under the supervision of SSP, a team comprising SDPO Qazi Ahmed, SHO of Qazi Ahmed Police Station and in-charge of District Intelligence Cell carried out a coordinated operation using technical assistance, intelligence inputs, and continuous efforts. As a result, the main suspect, identified as Saifal Mallah, son of Zulfiqar and a resident of Thatta district, was apprehended within 24 hours.

Police registered a case against the accused under Crime No. 196/2026, invoking Section 295-B of Pakistan Penal Code. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.

SSP Dr Sameer Noor Channa said that the Holy Quran is not only a sacred book but the spiritual foundation of Muslims, and anyone found involved in its desecration would face strict legal consequences. He added that Shaheed Benazirabad Police remains committed to maintaining religious harmony and preventing any attempts to incite hatred or unrest.

The police spokesperson reiterated that strict and impartial legal action would continue against elements involved in hurting religious sentiments.
