Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government has so far established 10 centers for children with autism. He added that the federal government has also sought assistance from the Sindh government for the establishment of an autism center and has expressed its desire to set up such a facility in Islamabad. In this regard, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the federal and Sindh governments. He further clarified that if any other province has claimed to establish the first autism center, the Sindh government has already operationalized 10 centers.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said that, due to effective government policies, the province has recorded a bumper wheat harvest this year. He added that the government has provided full support to farmers through the Benazir Hari Card. He further stated that the Sindh Cabinet has ordered strict action against wheat hoarding by restricting its inter-provincial movement, while clear instructions have been issued to the Food Department and district administrations to take action against hoarders and confiscate stock for government use.
He said that the Sindh Cabinet approved several development and administrative decisions, including the up gradation of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Wellness and Recreational Park, Sukkur, the establishment of a dedicated women’s block at Mir Masoom Shah Library, Sukkur, and the approval of an additional grant of over Rs 916.1 million for food arrangements in Sindh prisons. The Cabinet also approved the draft bill of the JPMC and NICH Operations and Management Act 2025, along with a new legal framework for managing medical institutions transferred from the federal government.
He further noted that rules for the appointment of executive directors, inclusion of oncology and vector-borne disease medicines in EPADS, and permission to initiate advance procurement processing for the financial year 2027-28 in July 2026 were also approved. The Sindh Postgraduate Residency Policy 2026 was endorsed, introducing a uniform postgraduate admission system across government medical institutions, with an allocation of Rs 4.739 billion for 3,794 training seats. The establishment of a provincial postgraduate committee and mandatory training rotations in DHQ and THQ hospitals were also approved. He added that eligibility criteria for the head of the Blood Transfusion Authority were broadened under the approval of the Sindh Safe Blood Transfusion Amendment Act 2026. The Sindh Business One Stop Shop (SBOSS) transition project was also approved and declared a matter of national importance.
He further stated that it was decided to allow fishing activities from June 1 to June 15, 2026, to provide temporary economic relief to fishermen, after which a complete ban will be reimposed. He added that following the approval of the IBA Amendment Bill 2026, IBA has been permitted to establish campuses outside Sindh, including in Islamabad, while the previous joint venture agreement has been terminated. Approval was also granted to hand over the mixed-traffic lane of the Red Line BRT to the FWO. Additionally, free pink scooters will be distributed in Hyderabad on May 23, and Sindh was described as the only province providing free scooters to women.
He said that May 22 will be a significant day for Pakistan, particularly Karachi, when Shahrah Bhutto will be opened for traffic by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. On the same day, a ceremony will be held to mark 75 years of Pak-China friendship. He said that Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of this friendship, which has strengthened over time, and that significant progress has also been made on CPEC.
Responding to a question regarding the 28th Constitutional Amendment, he said that no contact had been made by the federal government. He added that constitutional amendments are reviewed on their merits, and the PPP had also presented its position during the 26th and 27th Amendments, which was accepted. He further stated that no draft of the proposed amendment has been shared so far, and the party will decide its position on ideological grounds. In response to another question, he said that the Sindh government has sufficient wheat stocks and that wheat prices in Sindh are the lowest compared to Punjab.
