Gunfire Near White House Prompts Security Lockdown and Response

Published on: May 24, 2026 4:28 AM

Gunfire near the White House

Gunfire near the White House triggered a major security response in Washington, raising concerns about the safety of one of the most heavily protected areas in the United States. According to U.S. media reports, dozens of gunshots were heard near the White House. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the exact motive behind the shooting.

Reports stated that President Donald Trump was inside the White House when the incident occurred. As a precaution, security officials immediately placed the White House under lockdown. Meanwhile, a large number of police officers and federal agents were deployed around the area.

According to officials, a suspected gunman opened fire on a security officer at a checkpoint near the White House. In response, the U.S. Secret Service quickly activated emergency security procedures and moved President Trump to a secure location.

Security measures were further strengthened as snipers were deployed on the roof of the White House. Law enforcement agencies secured the surrounding area and closely monitored all activity while assessing potential threats. The rapid response helped contain the situation within a short period.

U.S. media reported that the suspect did not gain access to the White House grounds. The alleged attacker was later killed during an exchange of fire with Secret Service personnel. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and motive behind the incident.

Journalists gathered on the North Lawn were also moved to the White House press briefing room for safety. In addition, footage surfaced showing a female reporter reacting with visible concern after hearing the gunfire. As a result, gunfire near the White House once again highlighted the importance of strict security measures surrounding the U.S. presidency.
