Chacha Cricket prepares emotional farewell after Australia ODI series

Published on: May 29, 2026 6:58 PM

Pakistan’s most recognisable cricket supporter Abdul Jalil, famously known as Chacha Cricket, has announced plans to retire from stadium appearances after attending the upcoming Pakistan-Australia One Day International series in Lahore. The 77-year-old fan said the third ODI next week could become his final live appearance supporting the national cricket team from the stands.

Chacha Cricket first watched international cricket during a Pakistan and England Test match in Lahore in 1968-69 and gradually became a familiar figure at stadiums worldwide. His passionate support, energetic presence, and signature green outfit later turned him into one of the most iconic supporters associated with Pakistan cricket across generations.

Over the decades, he regularly attended matches at Sharjah Cricket Stadium and earned worldwide attention during the 1999 Cricket World Cup in England through his unwavering support for Pakistan. Cricket fans across different countries recognised him for his enthusiasm, distinctive green cap, and emotional connection with the national side during major international tournaments.

Abdul Jalil shared that he has now fulfilled his personal dream of attending and supporting Pakistan in 500 cricket matches during his lifetime as a dedicated fan. He also revealed plans to establish a cricket-themed restaurant and museum near Sialkot where he intends to preserve his valuable memorabilia and memorable moments from decades of cricket history.

Throughout his long journey as a supporter, Chacha Cricket witnessed several unforgettable moments in Pakistan cricket, including Javed Miandad’s historic last-ball six against India in 1986. He also celebrated Pakistan’s memorable victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final, which remains one of the country’s greatest achievements in modern cricket history.

However, he admitted disappointment over the national team’s recent performances while expressing hope that Pakistan cricket will once again return to consistent success on the international stage. Cricket fans and former players have already started paying tribute to Chacha Cricket’s unmatched dedication, describing him as a lasting symbol of passion, loyalty, and support for Pakistan cricket.
