France has been a regular participant in the Miss Universe competition since its inception in 1952. The decision to withdraw therefore brings to an end a continuous 73-year presence at one of the world’s most recognized beauty pageants.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the Miss France organization said the decision applies only to the next edition of the competition. The organization explained that it remains attentive to the future direction and development of the Miss Universe pageant and hopes to return to the competition in the near future.

While the statement did not provide detailed reasons behind the decision, it suggested that the move was made after careful consideration of the pageant’s future evolution and strategic direction.

The announcement has generated discussion among pageant enthusiasts and followers on social media, with many expressing surprise at France’s absence from the competition after such a long and consistent history of participation.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe organizers have also confirmed that France will not be represented in the 2026 contest. The development means that one of the pageant’s most established participating nations will be missing from the lineup for the first time since the event began.

France has historically been one of the notable competitors in international beauty pageants, producing several successful contestants over the years and maintaining a strong presence on the global stage.

Although France will not compete in Miss Universe 2026, the Miss France organization has indicated that the withdrawal is not necessarily permanent. Its statement leaves open the possibility of returning in future editions, depending on developments within the competition.

The decision marks a significant moment in the history of both Miss France and the Miss Universe pageant.
